Murchison Falls National Park is the largest Uganda's national park with the size of 3,840 square kilometers with different mammals, birds, butterflies, its bisected by the mighty river Nile and one of the most exciting. The park is located 311km Northwest of Kampala and because of the water falls in the park, Murchison Falls National Park is unique in its own way.
It derives its name from the dramatic Murchison Falls and it spreads inland right from the shore of Lake Albert around the Victoria Nile. The blessed Murchison Falls National Park is where river Nile the Longest River in the world explodes passing through the narrow cleft in the Rift Valley escarpment. Also Karuma Wildlife Reserve and Bugungu Wildlife Reserve are also adjoined to Murchison Falls National Park covering an area of 5072 square kilometers.
The park is blessed with the big five which are Elephants, Buffalos, Leopards, Lions which can be viewed during Game viewing and the Rhinos are seen as a stopover at the Rhino Sanctuary on 7000ha ranch on your way to Murchison Falls National Park. Besides those animals there are other wildlife in the park which are Hippos, Crocodiles and water birds which are seen especially during the Launch/Boat trip in the Falls. Other animals in Murchison Falls National Park are the hartebeest, Uganda Kob, Rothichild’s Giraffes, Bushbuck, Defassa Waterbuck, Bohor reedbuck, Warthog, Oribi, Side-striped Jackal, Spotted Hyena etc.
In the southeast of Murchison Falls National Park, you get the Rabongo Forest which is a home of chimps, other primates and Birds.
